The Road to Damscus

Great interview by Fran on RN this morning. Record of Frans Interview

Seems like Joe Hockey will lead the Liberals when Malcolm falls on his sword after the ETS problem goes away and before the next election is announced. Joe has firmly ensconced as the contender with his statesmanlike plea for tolerance Clipping from Mr Hockey's Speech His ascension to the top, not too fast, not too slow is once again a testament to John Howard's skill in picking his team. Mr Hockey has always been a strong media performer. Who could forget the cardboard cut outs in question time scam.

This morning's revelation that Joe has strong convictions himself is a great start to building the media frenzy that will be needed to rebuild the coalition's fortunes. Hapless Malcolm seems to me to be too far to the left for the majority of Liberal voters. The current stoush over who does or doesnt believe in anthropogenic climate change is showing how far he has misread the conservative nature of the party he leads. He did have a choice of parties to join, he got it wrong.

But now that Joe has cast his hat in the ring with the religious faction I hope he will be subject to increasing scrutiny. Past outrageous remonstrations and claims by this teddy bear shaped head kicker have, for me at least, stretched the credibility of his message. His claim about not lying is a good long stretch of his own stand. Maybe he will need lessons from Bill Clinton when the inevitable happens.

Christopher Monkton

A YouTube video of Christopher Monckton was posted on the Woodwork forums, the clip is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMe5dOgbu40 the best bit is where he wails and bemoans the death of freedom in America, from a titled British peer!!!

There is a great rebuttal here http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2009/oct/20/christopher-monckton/british-climate-skeptic-says-copenhagen-treaty-thr/ but the salient point is that there is a deliberate campaign of mis information going on. He has received air time on Aust radio http://2gb.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=6205&Itemid=134

Aside form that I expect the Copenhagen conference will achieve little of lasting consequence as the "first world" has too much to lose. The bluster that Lord Monckton emits will in the end be irrelevant as well.

Why the blog?

I want to set out the purpose of this blog. There is a lot of misinformation around; on the net, in the papers, and in the radio / TV media. There are deliberate attempts to mislead and deceive on issues that will profoundly affect the future of this planet and the people who inhabit it. So my purpose is to uncover and comment on these deceptions as they occur.

Since politicians are the most visible perpetrators they will undoubtedly be common subjects but there are many other sources of misinformation around. My ramblings will not be systematic but if I need to change my opinion to fit the facts I will.

I may also publish poetry and other musings as they occur.
